Brett and Guntars hit the World Stage

This year Australia has 2 representatives going to the World Armwrestling Championship in Vilnius, Lithuania between 14th – 21st September 2014.

Guntars Baikovs from South Australia and Brett Coutts from Victoria will be carrying the Australian Flag into the opening ceremony of the biggest armwrestling tournament anywhere in the world. Guntars and Brett are the reign national champions (both left and right) in their weight classes and will be vying for title of World Champion.

Brett Coutts dominating at FitX

Since he first stepped onto the scene at the 2011 Nationals, Brett Coutts has been a formidable force in Australian Armwrestling, with multiple National, State and FitX titles under his belt. Brett will be dropping a weight class and competing in the under 90kg class and by all accounts coming out of Victoria is more of a “beast” than ever. The weight drop seems to have had no effect on his legendary strength, he just looks more ripped than before and is making his final preparations in Norway under the guidance of champion strongman Lars Rorbakken.

Guntars Baikovs wins Nationals

Certainly no stranger to the world of armwrestling at the highest levels, Guntars Baikovs is the reigning Australian Heavyweight Champion on both left and right arm. Without any pressure to drop weight he will be competing against the biggest armwrestlers in the world. Although he has previously represented Latvia at international competitions, he will be representing Australia for the first time and comes off a dominant display at Nationals last year which has clearly set a standard for the sport in Australia.

The AAF wishes both Guntars and Brett all the best at Worlds!
